Beside the dock, Rory held a shell to one ear, waiting for the hush-hush sound of the sea. But all he heard was putt-putt from his little boat and a tiny hum coming from beyond the safe rope.
Rory steered out past the bumpy green hills and the cloud shadows. Spray tickled his cheeks, and he lost his snack cracker to a gull. “Hey, that was mine!” he laughed. The hum grew louder under one round, bobbing wave. Rory dipped his net and lifted up a rusty music box shaped like a fish.
Back at the dock, the box played hush-hush, ting-ting, sweeter than any shell. Next time you see the rolling waves, can you guess which one kept Rory’s secret?
