Every day after practice, Tessa tapped the bottom of the gym scoreboard and led one tiny victory chant, even if the Eagles had only beaten the ball cart. The metal always rang back with a bright ping, like it was clapping too. Until one day, during game three, the scoreboard flickered at 21–19 and a folded blue note slid from underneath.
Because of that, Tessa snatched it during the timeout and read, “Check behind the left net post.” The crowd stomped until the bleachers boomed. Because of THAT, her team found a second note taped inside the padding: “One roar opens the last point.” Tessa tucked it into her knee pad, smelled dust and floor wax, and grinned. “Everybody, together!”
When the whistle blew, the gym thundered with the old chant, bigger than any she had sung alone. Tessa sprang up, sent the ball sailing, and the joy burst across both benches. Next time you see the scoreboard, check underneath—maybe it still remembers the bright ping.
