🎨 How to color it

Color the witch’s hat deep purple, the crooked house smoky gray, the pumpkins bright orange, and the porch ghost pale blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the roof shingles, window webs, twisted tree branches, and tiny skulls, saving broader marker fills for the walls and sky. Try a dusky violet-to-navy night sky behind the crescent moon so the flying broom and wobbly chimney feel extra fast.

Under a slice of moon, Junia zipped over the crooked manor yard with a bent brass key tied to her hat ribbon. It clinked against the buckle as she banked between cottony clouds, and the cold air smelled like dry leaves and candle smoke. Every year, the rooflines here seemed to lean a little more toward the sky, as if waiting to race.

The house creaked awake below her. Shutters flapped like hands. Pumpkins thumped on the porch boards, grinning orange in the dark. Junia tapped her broom twice and laughed, “Make room!” The key was small, plain, and scratched, but she polished it every autumn because it had belonged to the first witch who ever found this place.

Then the chimney puffed three perfect smoke rings, and Junia understood: the key was not for a door. It was the starter whistle for the whole manor. Windows blinked, porch ghosts waved, gravestones nodded, and the house galloped in place without moving an inch. Junia swung the key high, exactly where the wind wanted her, and the night answered with a whoosh. Next time you spot that little key, listen for the rooflines leaning toward the sky.
