🎨 How to color it

Color the vampire’s cape deep burgundy, his shirt misty gray, the cauldron smoky purple, and the little spider soft charcoal against silver webs. Use sharp colored pencils for the web sections and skull-and-star band, then switch to markers or broad crayon strokes for the cape, cauldron, and flames. Try making the steam curl from pale lavender to ghostly green so the worried face feels lit by a strange, gentle glow.

In the cellar hearth, where the stones smelled of warm dust and old apples, Silas tapped his spoon on an empty pot. He wanted the moon-milk pudding ready before the bell bat rang, so he invented a game called Bubble, Bubble, Blink: stir once, count one bubble, and peek only after three. But the pudding stayed flat and quiet. Above him, a thread-thin spider named Loomi clicked her feet across the web. “Not yet,” she whispered.

Silas stirred again. One bubble rose with a plip. He gripped the spoon until the wood felt smooth as a river pebble. Two bubbles wobbled up, smelling like vanilla and rain on stone. Still he did not peek. His knees bounced, his fangs nibbled his lip, and the little fire hissed blue-orange below the pot.

At last the third bubble lifted, round and bright, and the whole cauldron sighed into soft swirls. Loomi tied three tiny knots in her web so Silas would remember: first for warming, second for thickening, third for sweetness waking up. Ever since, cobweb cauldrons in that cellar simmer in threes, and if you spot Silas’s spoon hovering over the steam, can you wait for the next plip?
