🎨 How to color it

Color the airplane wing bright white with silver-gray flap panels, the cabin window frame soft beige, and the clouds pale blue with lavender shadows. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow wing sections and window rings, then switch to smooth side-strokes for the wide sky spaces. Try a sunset gradient outside the oval window, fading peach near the wingtip into deep blue at the top.

Before the seatbelt sign blinked off, Nell pressed her forehead to the cool oval window and counted cloud bumps below the wing. She had promised herself she would solve one sky secret before landing. The engines hummed like a giant sleepy cat, and the cabin smelled faintly of pretzels and raincoats.

Then the shade rattled. Not down—sideways. Behind its lip, where nobody ever looks, Nell found a button no bigger than a shirt snap, stamped with a tiny cloud. “Don’t tell the aisle,” whispered a voice from the vent.

Nell clicked it. A small round pane slid open inside the bigger window, clear as a drop of water. Through it, every cloud showed its hidden pocket: one held moonlight, one held thunder crumbs, and one carried the soft white fluff used to patch torn skies. Ever since Nell’s flight, airplane windows have kept that little round inner pane, so curious passengers can suspect there is more outside than blue. Next time you see one, dare yourself to check whether the cloud button is hiding near the shade.
