Every day before noon, Bram stood on Split-Crackle Pass and rang the tiny snack bell for the goat couriers. Ding for cheese rolls, ding-ding for apple buns. The wind smelled like cold stone and peppergrass, and his big shield mostly served as a tray for crumbs. He wanted one peaceful bell without the echoing mountains shouting it back.
Until one day, the bell went CLONG-WHOOOMP and Bram’s shield burped a trumpet blast. Pebbles hopped. His scarf snapped straight out. “That was not me,” Bram said. Because of that, the goat couriers bolted in circles, and because of THAT, their packs popped open—buns, rolls, and jelly moons bouncing over the rocks like a picnic with legs.
Bram planted his sword, flipped the shield, and found a thumb-sized giggle imp hiding behind the center boss, cheeks full of stolen bell-sound. It sneezed one perfect fanfare. Bram laughed so hard the peaks answered in seven silly voices. At last, he aimed the shield toward the valley and let the imp blow the loudest lunch call ever. Next time you spot Bram braced on those cracked rocks, can you tell which swirl of wind is still carrying the snack bell’s ding-ding?
