🎨 How to color it

Layer the shark in blue-gray and pearl white, give the curling sea vines deep teal, tint the flower-like anemones coral pink, and make the tiny fish warm gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the scale patches, fin scrollwork, and bead-like bubble outlines, keeping your point fine as you move through the dense seaweed. For a refined twist, shade the background water from pale aqua at the top to soft indigo near the lower coral so the white-edged shark feels quietly luminous.

The story behind this coloring page

Between the looping sea vines, Vale rolled one moon-pale pearl along his fin and invented a game: leave it where it would brighten another creature’s way, then swim off before any thanks could find him. The reef smelled of salt and crushed anemone. He slipped from his soft alcove, carrying the pearl through scrolls of weed and silver bubbles, but a current combed his scales the wrong way and tugged the pearl toward a sleeping urchin’s spines. Vale gave one careful flick. “Not for keeping,” he whispered.

The pearl settled beside a dim coral arch where two small fish had been circling in cloudy water. Its glow opened a blue path home for them, and Vale lost the only bright counter for his new game. On the way back, his empty fin felt strangely light. The vines brushed him like silk ribbons, and every bubble seemed to hold a little moon. By the time he reached his alcove, Vale had nothing to count, and something better to begin: another round, with whatever quiet shine the reef had overlooked.
