🎨 How to color it

Color the apple bright candy red, the leaf fresh green, the little house buttery yellow, and the star a warm golden yellow. The apple’s big round shape is perfect for chunky crayons or markers, while the leaf veins and window panes are good spots for a careful pencil line. Try leaving the two shine marks white so the apple looks polished under that star.

The story behind this coloring page

Hazel’s Borrowed Star — Under the hill house, a soft tap-tap-tap woke Hazel the apple. Read the full story →

Under the hill house, a soft tap-tap-tap woke Hazel the apple. She rolled to the doorstep, clutching a bent roof nail she had kept since the carpenter dropped it; to Hazel, it was a tiny key to the house’s secrets. The chimney breathed warm woodsmoke. Above the roof, one star hung low and crooked, as if it had been listening.

Hazel nudged the nail into a small notch in her stem. Click! The star slid down a beam of silver light and whispered, “Hold this for morning.” A bright mark settled on Hazel’s skin, smooth and cool as moon-milk. Ever since that night, apples keep little shining patches so stars have a place to rest before dawn. If you spot Hazel by the hill house, can you find the secret glow she borrowed from the star?
