🎨 How to color it

Color the pomegranate skins deep garnet, the fig pairs dusky violet, the grape clusters wine purple, and the long leaves sage green. Use sharp pencils for the tiny pomegranate seeds, grape circles, and art nouveau scrollwork, turning the page as you follow each curve. Try a soft gold outline on the ornamental arches so the fruit feels like it is resting in an old illuminated frame.

At the edge of the supper wreath, Vesper pressed his fig skin against the cool vine and counted one breath, then another. He had set himself a private challenge: travel the whole circle before the dining room lamp clicked out. The scrolls smelled faintly of dust and cut stems. Past grape beads and ribbed leaves he went, trembling when the carved curls narrowed and brushed his sides like silver wire. Halfway around, a pomegranate seed seller asked for a toll. Vesper gave one shining drop from his own split seam and felt suddenly lighter, and less sure.

Near the top, where the vines made a pointed arch, the missing secret appeared: the empty center was not empty at all, but a listening place. Every fruit he had passed sent one small sound into it—grape tap, leaf hush, pomegranate tick—until the hollow held a map of the whole wreath. Vesper returned before the lamp went dark, carrying no prize anyone could see, only the courage to pause in open space. At the edge of the supper wreath, he counted one breath, then another.
