Under the hush-hush leaves, Pip the apple watched silver stars blink above the orchard. He wanted one tiny star for his stem, so his branch would not feel so dark at bedtime. With a soft plop, he rolled down the hill, through cool grass that tickled his round red sides.
Near the fence, a little firefly blinked gold. “Are you a fallen star?” Pip whispered. The firefly laughed, gentle as a bell. “No, but I can walk you home.” Pip had to give up his wish and follow the glow back.
