🎨 How to color it

Color the BMX frame electric blue, the rider’s helmet cherry red, the half-pipe warm tan, and the big outlined stars golden yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the wheel spokes and tire treads, then switch to a broader marker or crayon for the ramp’s wide curved boards. Try a pale sunset gradient behind the clouds so the lifted front wheel feels like it is hanging in the last light.

Just before the lamps clicked on, Silas rolled his BMX to the old half-pipe and listened to the boards tick-tick as they cooled. He wanted one clean wheelie up the curve before the evening crew arrived, but every try wobbled at the lip. Under the ramp, something gave a tiny clink, like a spoon tapping a jar. Silas waited, breath smelling of dust and rubber, until the sound came again.

He crouched where nobody ever looked, behind the lowest support beam, and found a flat cookie tin wedged in the shadows. Inside were silver paper stars, a stub of chalk, and a note: When the front tire reaches the sky, leave a star so the ramp remembers. Silas tucked one star into his sleeve, climbed back on, and pedaled slowly. This time he did not yank the handlebars. He let the ramp lift him.

At the top, his front wheel rose, quiet and round against the clouds. “Now,” Silas whispered, and the paper star fluttered onto a beam above the curve. Ever since, BMX ramps keep stars near their highest tricks, because patience gave the sky a place to hide; next time you see those stars around Silas, can you spot which one the ramp remembered first?
