🎨 How to color it

Color the bulldog puppy warm tan, the bone tag butter yellow, the rope toy red and blue, and the potted plant leafy green. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the puppy’s big cheeks and body, then slow down around the tiny tag loop and rope twists. Try making the paw-print rug light gray with one bright blue print, like a special stepping spot.

The rope toy smelled like cotton and sunny dust, and Kip wanted to reach it in exactly ten paw steps. He tapped the paw-print rug with his round feet. One, two, three—no rushing. His bone tag went clink-clink as he sat tall by the big plant pot.

He counted again, louder this time, while the leaves made soft shush sounds above him. “Ten steps, then tug!” Kip said, wiggling only his tail.

On the tenth step, he found a blue paw print that was not on the rug before. It was paint from the plant pot, stamped by his own patient foot. Kip laughed, grabbed the rope, and gave it a proud shake. Next time you see his paws by the rope, can you find the special blue print that waited for ten steps?
