Under the hot, salt-bright morning, a butterfly named Liora zipped through the hibiscus grove with a tiny spiral shell tied to her leg. It looked like a plain beach pebble, but she tapped it before every new adventure: tik-tik, go! The air smelled of crushed leaves and warm nectar, and palm fronds rattled like paper flags as she aimed for the biggest red bloom. She wanted to shout her good news to the grove: the tide pools were sparkling blue again.
Liora landed beside the hibiscus trumpet and lifted the shell. “Hear this!” she cried, ready to make the loudest cheer her small body could manage. But before she spoke, the shell answered. Not with words—with the faraway rush of waves, crab claws clicking, gulls laughing, and her cousins’ wingbeats from the beach. The little shell had been carrying yesterday’s whole adventure in its curl.
Liora laughed so hard the flower dust tickled her feet. She pressed the shell near the hibiscus center, and the bloom seemed to pass the sea-song into every leaf. If you follow the butterfly’s legs to the flower’s bright middle, can you imagine the grove hearing tik-tik, go?
