🎨 How to color it

Color the crab’s shell sunset orange, the sea anemones rosy pink and lemon yellow, the coral branches seafoam green, and the scattered shells pearly lavender. Use sharp colored pencils for the crab’s spotted legs and the many thin anemone petals, then switch to softer strokes for the flowing water lines. Try making the current fade from pale aqua to turquoise around the crab, as if the tide is carrying a quiet glow.

Between the pink anemones, Oren tapped one claw against the stone: tick, tick, tick. He wanted a bright shell for his bare listening corner, where every wave sounded plain. When the tide slid in with a cool hush, he stepped out from his favorite crack and followed a pearl glimmer past pebbles, coral fingers, and ribbons of moving light.

A sudden swirl lifted him off the sand. His claw scraped a rock, and he had to let go of the little snack he had carried for courage. Then something clear and round bumped his knee. It was a sea comb, soft as jelly, blinking with tiny rainbow sparks. “Can you hum?” it whispered, and the water around Oren trembled like a glass bell.

Oren hummed low. The sea comb hummed high. Together they made the tide pool ring—over shells, around anemones, through the coral branches—until even the pebbles seemed to glow. Oren came home without the shining shell, but with a song too big to keep. Next time the water curls around his raised claws, listen closely: tick, tick, hum.
