🎨 How to color it

Color the hound a honey brown, make his long ears a darker cocoa, give the porch boards a warm cedar, and fill the DOG bowl with sky blue. Use chunky crayons or broad marker strokes for the big ears, body, railing, and floorboards, and do not worry if little paws go outside the lines. Try a silly twist by coloring the letters on the bowl in three bright colors, as if his dinner dish is ready for a party.

Every evening, Hobart flopped on the cool porch boards and waited for his supper bowl to clink. He liked one quiet sniff before the first crunch. Until one day, his bowl went skitter-skatter away with a tiny beetle inside, juggling three peas that smelled like grass.

Because of that, Hobart crawled after it, ears sliding like mop heads. Because of THAT, the railing sparrows hopped down, the porch mouse popped out, and everyone laughed when a pea bounced onto Hobart’s nose. “Share the parade!” squeaked the beetle. At last, Hobart nudged the bowl back, tipped in his kibble, and let every guest take one crunchy bit. Next time you see his big ears by that bowl, can you spot where the pea parade began on the cool porch boards?
