🎨 How to color it

Color the letters of Elizabeth in ivory and deep teal, the crown in antique gold with ruby gems, and the laurel leaves in emerald green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny diamonds, stair-step corners, and narrow fan rays, then fill the wider letter spaces with smooth marker strokes. Try a pale peach-to-sky-blue glow inside the big circular arch so the gold crown feels lit from behind.

Behind the civic hall’s biggest arch, where dust smelled like chalk and cold stone, Tessa carried a tile marked Elizabeth in both hands. She only had to slide it into the empty place before the morning bell. Easy, she told herself—until a crown rolled out from behind the laurel carvings with a tiny clink-clink-clink.

“Put me above it,” whispered the crown. Tessa’s knees made a soft knocking sound. No apprentice touched festival metal alone. But the arch was sagging, and the plain tile would not hold. She pressed the crown to the top curve, palms prickling against its sharp little jewels. The arch clicked shut like a secret box, and golden dust ran down the letters.

Ever since, whenever Elizabeth is written for the hall, its name carries a crown, laurel leaves, and a high brave arch—because one shaky-handed apprentice met a whispering crown and did the next small thing anyway. If you spot those leaves crossing below the letters, keep the secret for Tessa.
