🎨 How to color it

Color the OWEN letters bright aqua, the smiling whale soft gray-blue, the tiny fish orange and yellow, and the seaweed fresh green. Use broad crayon or marker strokes inside the chunky letters and waves, then switch to a sharp pencil for the little bubbles and fish eyes. Try making the lower waves fade from turquoise to deep blue so the whale looks like it is splashing through Owen’s handmade sea parade.

Beside the coral harbor, Owen snapped a red bottle cap onto a cork and tied on two shiny shell fins. He wanted his tiny submarine to make one brave trip past the bubbly letters he had shaped from smooth white clay. Plink, plink, went his tool in the tide pool, and the air smelled salty and bright.

He pushed the submarine into a curling wave. Tiny fish zipped after it like gold arrows. Then a whale rose with a happy puff, and the bottle cap bobbed onto her spout. “Captain Cap is ready!” Owen shouted.

The whale blew a tower of bubbles, lifting the little submarine higher than the seaweed. Owen stood tall, proud of every knot and shell he had fixed with his own hands. Next time you see the whale’s smile, can you spot Captain Cap beginning that brave trip?
