🎨 How to color it

Color the JOSIAH letters sky blue, the stepping stones warm tan, the curled scroll parchment cream, and the lantern bright golden yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big letters, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the lantern bars and tiny shine marks. Try making every other stepping stone a slightly darker tan so the path looks like it wiggles forward.

Along the sign trail, Josiah rubbed wax on a little lantern he had built from a jam lid, bent wire, and one shiny button. Scritch, squeak, twist—his fingers smelled like metal and lemon soap. He wanted the lamp to hang straight before the evening pebble parade.

He hooked it up, stepped back, and grinned. The stones looked round as pancakes in the soft light. Then the handle gave a tiny hiccup. “Who put a giggle in my lantern?” Josiah whispered.

Out popped a folded paper cricket from the curly handle, kicking its legs with a papery tick-tick-tick. It had been hiding there, waiting to chirp for the first lamp Josiah made himself. The lantern swung, the cricket clicked, and the parade stones seemed to wiggle too; can you spot where Josiah’s sneaky handle held the tick-tick surprise?
