Under the striped hush of the bamboo sanctuary, Tao kept a dull bronze bell beneath his paw and wished to hear it ring once more. At dusk he stepped beyond his familiar shade, trading his last sweet shoot to a mothkeeper for a thread of moon-silk said to wake old metal. The bell made no sound until Tao carried it back through the rustling canes and saw every den-light waiting. When he tied the silk and lifted it, the note bloomed—low, bright, impossible to keep—and joy moved through the grove like the striped hush returning.
