🎨 How to color it

Color the Christmas tree deep pine green, the family’s sweaters in cherry red and snowflake blue, the wrapped gifts gold and candy-cane stripes, and the fireplace bricks warm brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny beads, ornament patterns, stocking names, and sweater details, then switch to markers for the broad tree branches and rug. Try making the window scene icy blue so the glowing yellows on the star topper, candles, and fire feel extra cozy.

Every evening in December, Joy tied one tiny bell onto the tree after homework, then tested herself: no stepstool, no grown-up hands, just her own clever fingers. The bells went ting-ting against the pine needles, and the room smelled like cinnamon candles and cold snow from the window. Until one day, the highest branch stayed bare, and the clock on the mantel ticked toward cocoa time.

Because of that, Joy raided the gift-wrap basket for ribbon, tape, and a cardboard tube. Because of THAT, Leo became the official counter, Mom held the bead garland out of the way, and Dad steadied the swaying branches while Joy built a wobbly ornament lifter she called the Star Launcher. “Three, two, tree!” she shouted, pushing the ribbon through the tube. The star charm zipped up, bumped a pinecone, and landed right where the bare branch had been waiting.

Finally, Joy tied the ribbon’s end into a fat bow, warm with pride from her own busy hands. Next time you see the little stocking with her name, can you spot the branch that rang ting-ting first?
