Every day, Nico tapped his tiny clipboard beside the classroom plot: seed, sprout, bud, bloom. Tap-tap, scratch-scratch, neat as chalk dust. He wanted one perfectly quiet chart for the science shelf, but the old blue watering can by the grass had other plans. One morning it hiccuped, “Glug-HOORAY!” and spat a silver splash straight onto the seed row.
Because of that, the buried seeds popped up early, wearing muddy root beards like prank mustaches. Because of THAT, the sprouts shook their leaves and flicked green droplets onto the bud, which puffed bigger and bigger until its petals burst open with a sneezy “Pafloom!” Joy bounced off the trowel, the clouds, even the word labels, and Nico’s careful pencil lines wiggled into party streamers.
At last Nico quit trying to hush the garden. He drew arrows between the stages, handed every classmate a paper cup of water, and let the bloom boom travel down the row. If you ever hear a watering can giggle, check whether Nico’s tap-tap chart is about to shout, “Glug-HOORAY!”
