🎨 How to color it

Give the fox a warm russet coat with a creamy chest and tail tip, then color the stream pale blue, the bare trees soft gray-brown, and the snowflakes icy lavender. Use sharp colored pencils for the fox’s fine fur strokes and snowflake points, then switch to light side-strokes for the rounded hills and clouds. Try a gentle blue-to-pink winter sky behind the flakes so the fox feels warm against the cold valley.

Under the willow bank, Soren tapped one paw, then two, making up a game called Snow-Sound Steps. He wanted to hear the softest snowflake land on the middle stone, the one beyond the silver stream. The water made a glassy chuckle, and the cold air smelled like pine needles tucked under ice.

He stepped out. One stone wobbled; splash! His back paw dipped in, sharp as a bite. Soren almost turned around, but a chickadee clicked from a bare branch, and he whispered, “One more step.” On the middle stone, he stood very still. Hush-tick. A snowflake touched his whisker before it touched the rock.

He came home with one wet paw and a new rule: the best sounds wait past the wobble. Next time snow falls, can you spot the stone where Soren first heard the hush-tick?
