🎨 How to color it

Color the panda’s patches soft charcoal, the bamboo stalks fresh green, the leafy bundle jade, and the round mat pale straw. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow bamboo leaves and work from each leaf tip toward the stem to keep the points crisp. Try making the mat a quiet sunburst of straw and honey so the panda’s happy face feels extra warm among the cool greens.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the hush-hush bamboo, Niko pressed one paw to his round nap mat and invented Bamboo Whisper. The rule was secret: pick one crunchy leaf, whisper a cheer into it, and deliver it before the wind stole the words. He chose the shiniest spray and waddled off, while the grove clicked and clacked above him like tiny wooden spoons.

First, a pebble poked his foot. Then a loose leaf stuck to his nose, which is very undignified when you are carrying important joy. At the narrow bend, three young shoots leaned close, thirsty for news. Niko gave them one leaf from his bundle and whispered, “Pass it on.” The shoots shivered, and the cheer rustled farther than his paws could go.

By the time Niko reached his mat again, his bundle was smaller, but the whole grove was whispering back: snack, snack, hooray, hooray. He hugged the last leaves to his belly and giggled so hard his ears wobbled. If you spot him sitting there, I dare you to guess which leaf still holds the first hush-hush bamboo cheer.
