🎨 How to color it

Color the wolf pup soft silver-gray, the inner ears pale pink, the grass fresh green, and the little butterfly butter yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad marker strokes for the pup’s big face and fluffy tail, and don’t worry if the color hops over the thick lines. For a playful touch, make the two cheek ovals rosy and give each small flower a different bright center.

In the hush before moonrise, a wolf pup named Pip patted the little leaf pouch he had stitched with grass thread. Inside were three seeds, smooth as pebbles. He wanted his own corner of Moon Meadow to bloom before the silver bell chimed, but the wind kept puffing, “Whooo,” and rolling his seeds away.

Pip dug with both front paws—scritch, scritch—and tucked each seed into the soft, cool dirt. His stitches pulled loose, so he tied the pouch around a twig and whispered, “Stay, please.” The butterfly guards saw the tiny flag and fluttered in circles, sprinkling pollen like gold dust.

By bell time, two flowers nodded beside Pip’s paws. Ever since, wolf pups make their first flower patch with something they sewed themselves. If you peek at Pip’s paws, you may spot where the secret began in Moon Meadow.
