🎨 How to color it

Color the kitten warm ginger with cream patches, the barn planks weathered red-brown, the hay bales golden yellow, and the far fields soft green. Use sharp colored pencils for the kitten’s spots, whiskers, wood grain, straw lines, and fence rails so those narrow details stay crisp. Try a pale morning-blue wash in the open sky and leave a thin white rim along the kitten’s back for early farm light.

Every day before breakfast, Rowan padded along the barn sill and checked the clay pot where Grandmother Moss had planted one bluebell seed. He sniffed the damp soil, cool and mineral-sweet, then sat still while dust motes drifted through the slats. Nothing rose. The cows clanked their chains, the hay smelled sunny, and Rowan waited anyway.

Until one day, the pot gave a dry little rattle instead of a soft earth smell. Because of that, Rowan tipped it gently with one paw and found only a hollow pebble. Because of that, he followed the faint tick-tick-tick down the planks, past the rough wooden door, to a crack under the sill where no broom ever reached. There, in a spoonful of windblown dirt, the bluebell had sprouted by itself, pale green and folded tight.

Rowan did not paw it loose. He curled beside the crack and guarded it while rain tapped the roof and made the barn smell dark and alive. By morning, one small bell opened, blue as a piece of quiet sky. Look near the barn door again—you can almost feel him keeping watch where dust motes drift through the slats.
