Every day, Nico tied his skates with two giant loops and saved the sticky tape bits that peeled off with a rip-rip sound. He pressed them flat, stacked them, and made tiny “pucks” for his pretend mouse hockey league under the bench.
Until one day, Coach Mara brought a broom that went swish, swish toward Nico’s rink. Because of that, Nico scooped up his wobbly tape pucks and slid them beside his skates. Because of THAT, the smallest one bounced off a blade and landed at Coach Mara’s toe.
“What’s this—hockey for ants?” she laughed. Finally, Nico showed her the whole handmade team, and Coach Mara made a goal from two water bottles. Next time you spot little tape shapes by skates, they might be waiting for a tiny faceoff with a rip-rip cheer.
