🎨 How to color it

Color the parrot emerald green with a golden-yellow chest, make the round sun bright lemon, and use three leafy greens for the layered treetops. The wing feathers and many small leaves will look neatest with sharp colored pencils, working from each outline toward the center. Try a pale blue sky that gets lighter around the sun, so the parrot’s green body feels extra bold in flight.

The story behind this coloring page

By the warm rim of the upper jungle, a small feather-kite lay half-made in Nico’s favorite forked branch. He had shaped it from fallen wing feathers, sap, and two bendy stems, but it still needed one strong cord. So he tucked the kite under his foot, listened to the dry leaves tick-tick in the sun, and flew beyond the trees he knew.

Past the tallest crowns, the air smelled like hot bark and faraway rain. A thin gray bird he had never seen before circled a round patch of sunlight, carrying a line of spider silk in her beak. “Psst,” she said, as if the clouds might be listening. “Trade me one tail thread, and I’ll show you a knot that holds the wind.” Nico’s tail felt shorter when he plucked the loose thread free, and he nearly dropped it when a gust shoved him sideways.

Back on his branch, Nico tied the secret knot with his own beak and claws. The kite lifted, not high, but steady, humming zzz-zz like a tiny storm he had built himself. Next time you spot him above the treetops, see if his wings look proud enough to be carrying a handmade secret.
