🎨 How to color it

Color the butterfly’s patterned wings in monarch orange with golden yellow scallops, the daisy centers warm ocher, the petals creamy white, and the tall leaves sage green. Use sharp colored pencils for the wing dots, spirals, and narrow vein sections, then switch to broader strokes for the daisy petals and long grass blades. Try making the butterfly glow with warmer colors than the cool green meadow, as if it has just brought a little sunlight with it.

The story behind this coloring page

The Whisper Under the Daisy — Under the curled fern leaf, Tavia tapped her feet in the dark. Read the full story →

Under the curled fern leaf, Tavia tapped her feet in the dark. She needed one drop of night-dew to soften her stiff wing edge before sunrise, but the meadow beyond her leaf hissed with grass and smelled of cold earth. At last she slipped out. Silver beads wet her legs. A beetle clicked past like a tiny door latch, and Tavia nearly turned back.

Then a voice said, “Not that way.” It came from the middle of a daisy, where the yellow bumps looked ordinary until one blinked. A small moth, pale as moon-milk, was tucked between the seeds. “The dew hides under petals that face west,” he whispered. Tavia gave him the only thing she carried: a crumb of pollen, sweet and dusty. He showed her a daisy bowed low, its petals cool as spoons.

Tavia drank one clear drop. Beneath it, she saw a ring of moonlit seeds spelling where the meadow kept its water after dry days. She flew home slower, not because she was afraid, but because the grass sounded different now. Look near the big daisy again—you can almost find the secret under the petals where Tavia first tapped her feet in the dark.
