🎨 How to color it

Color the skull in warm ivory, the anchor bandana in deep crimson, the roses in burgundy and dusty pink, and the waves in teal blue. Use sharp pencils for the tiny anchors, leaf veins, scrollwork, and cracked bone lines, then switch to smoother blending on the larger glass panels behind the skull. For a dramatic stained-glass effect, shade the compass stars from pale gold at the center to amber at the points while keeping the outer border cool gray.

At the cliffside chapel, Selwyn polished the pirate window each dusk, letting salt air and beeswax mingle while the sea broke softly below. The skull, roses, ship, and compass gathered the last light in separate panes, as if each remembered a different voyage. One evening, the western sun struck the largest rose and opened a color he had never mixed: a hidden pocket of gold leaf, sealed behind the glass. Inside was no name, only a tiny folded sail and one pressed petal, left for any stranger who might need brightness. Selwyn did not take it; he turned the pane toward the harbor, and the unseen gift shone outward with the salt air and beeswax.
