Under the service garage, Quincy rolled in tiny taps, clutching a dull silver washer under his seat. He wanted to know why it hummed whenever the big wall clock hid behind a cloud. Tick-tick. Purr-purr. The stacked tires smelled like warm rubber, and the brick wall held the day’s heat.
“Show me,” Quincy whispered. The washer slipped, spun across the floor, and clicked onto his blank door circle. At once, every tire in the corner gave one soft thump, and moonlight slid through the high window like milk. The little circle shone bright enough to guide sleepy cars back to their bays.
Ever since, garage racers wear round door badges, so the tires can tell them home from the dark. If you peek at Quincy’s door, can you find the moon that began with tick-tick, purr-purr?
