Under the quiet shoal, where sea grass brushed like ribbons and the water tasted faintly of rain, Soren followed a tiny tik-tik-tik. He wanted to know who was making it. The crabs blamed the pebbles, the pebbles blamed the clams, and the clams shut tight with a soft sandy puff. Still the sound wandered ahead of him, small as a wink.
Near the rippled roof of the sea, Soren nosed through a trail of bubbles. One plain bubble would not pop. Inside it, no bigger than a pearl, sat a baby moon snail tapping its shell to call for home. “I hear you,” Soren whispered, and pushed the bubble gently toward the grass beds.
The snail’s mother hummed, and the bubble trembled, holding every note. Soren carried that hum back through the shoal, and dolphins have kept round listening bubbles ever since, for secrets too soft for waves. If curiosity tugs you toward the bubbles, can you find the one that first learned to listen?
