Every evening, Orla patted a blue pebble three times and helped Aunt Juniper stack dry leaves for bedtime. Tap, tap, tap meant safe, because the pebble had come from Orla’s very first den. Until one windy night, whoosh! The leaf beds flew down the ravine, and Aunt Juniper’s lantern sputtered out with a smoky pop.

Because of that, Orla tucked the pebble under her chin and scampered after the leaves, paws slipping on cold stone. Because of THAT, she heard a tiny clink-clink from a dark hollow: the wind was tossing the lantern hook inside! “I can go in,” Orla whispered, though her belly bounced like a drum. She tapped the pebble, squeezed through the roots, and nudged the hook free. Finally, the lantern glowed, the leaves made a soft nest, and Orla slept with her pebble by one paw; if you spot that cozy paw, you’ll know where the brave tapping ended.
