🎨 How to color it

Color the astronaut’s suit bright white with sky-blue shadows, the rocket cherry red with silver fins, the flame orange and yellow, and the ringed planets purple and teal. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big rocket body and helmet, then switch to a sharper pencil for the little stars, bubbles, and planet spots. Try making the smoke clouds pale lavender at the top and soft gray underneath so the fiery blast looks extra warm.

The story behind this coloring page

The Button That Made Zoom — In the hush behind the star parade, Juno rubbed a red coat button between her gloves. Read the full story →

In the hush behind the star parade, Juno rubbed a red coat button between her gloves. She had built her rocket from moon-tin, soup-can screws, and three wobbly fins, but it still left too quietly. Pffft was not a space sound. She wanted a sound that said, I made this, and it works.

Her crew of pebble-mice squeaked, “Try the button!” Juno stitched it beside the round window with silver thread that smelled like rain on pennies. She pressed it once. Zooooom! The rocket leaped past the moon, past spotted planets, past comets with tickly tails.

Here is the secret: rockets did not always say zoom. Ever since Juno’s handmade button shouted it first, every proud little rocket has carried a zoom inside. If you spot the button near her heart, keep the secret safe.
