🎨 How to color it

Color the mushroom cap cherry red with cream spots, make the frog bright spring green, and give the stream a pale sky blue. The mushroom cap and frog belly have big open spaces, so chunky crayons or markers can fill them in easily. Try making the flower centers golden yellow so the tiny blossoms peek out from all the leaves.

Under the hush-hush leaves by the stream, Tavi kept a smooth white pebble button tucked beneath his chin. He rubbed it whenever thunder bumped, because it had fallen from his tadpole pond on the night he first hopped away.

One wet afternoon, drip-drop-drop, rain slid through the great mushroom roof where beetle babies slept below. Tavi could hear their tiny feet pattering in panic. Nobody was looking, not even the daisies. “Here,” he whispered, and pressed his pebble button onto the leak. Then he found more pale pebbles and dotted every weak place.

By morning, the mushroom wore white spots that never washed off. Ever since, forest mushrooms keep their spots because one frog shared his secret comfort when no one was watching—can you spot the first button Tavi gave away?
