🎨 How to color it

Color the koala soft ash gray with cream inner ears, make the eucalyptus leaves sage and blue-green, and use dusty tan for the gum nuts and branch. The koala’s fluffy outline and paw pads are perfect for colored pencils, while the long leaf shapes can take smooth marker strokes from stem to tip. Try adding a pale sunrise yellow behind the hanging koala so the dangling paws and curved branch feel extra bright.

Each morning before the sun warmed the high leaves, Orbin climbed to the same swaying branch and counted the three tight eucalyptus bells. He had set himself a challenge: no nibbling, no tapping, no shaking—just wait until one bell opened on its own. The buds smelled sharp and clean, like rain hiding in bark.

Until one day, a gust rolled through the canopy and bounced him upside down beneath the branch. Because of that, his paw landed right beside the smallest bell. Because of that, a silver drop trembled at its rim, bright as a tiny moon. “Not yet,” Orbin whispered, though his claws itched.

He hung there, listening to leaf-swish and far cicadas, until finally the bell loosened with a soft pop and dusted his nose with honey scent. Orbin laughed so gently the branch barely moved. Next time you find the dangling koala among the long leaves, can you spot the little bells he waited for before the sun warmed the high leaves?
