Between the curly ferns, Bramble tapped one toe in the warm dirt and whispered, “Blink-Bloom begins now!” His new game had one rule: stare at a flower until it smiled first. The meadow smelled like clover and wet leaves. Bramble sat very still, cheeks round, tail curled like a question mark. A beetle tickled past his foot. Plip, plip, went dew from a leaf. He did not laugh. Well… he snorted once.
The flowers did not move. The hearts hanging from the vines did not move. Even the stars above the bushes seemed to be holding their breath. Then Bramble heard tiny giggles—not from the flowers, but from the dots! Each little dot was a seed bug wearing black polka-dot pajamas, waiting for Bramble to blink so they could pop out and decorate the meadow. He waited one more slow breath. Pop-pop-pop! The garden burst into grins, and if you can spot the tiniest dots, you know who won Blink-Bloom.
