Under the straw-sweet moon, Pipkin tapped a seed shell with two acorn sticks. Tak-tik, tak-tik! He wanted the loudest harvest beat in the pumpkin patch, so he marched past crunchy leaves and sleepy vines.
Three pumpkins suddenly rolled together and rose into a tower, grin over grin over grin. “Play up here!” called the winking one. Pipkin climbed a curly vine, and every tap made leaves spin like tiny orange boats. Then the surprise answered back: the pumpkins were hollow drums, each with its own boom, bonk, and bumble.
