🎨 How to color it

Color the unicorn pearl white with a lavender mane, the coach soft pink with gold crowns, and the castle stones pale gray under a butter-yellow moon. Use sharp colored pencils for the coach scrollwork, bridle tassels, gate curls, and tiny stars, then switch to markers for the broad castle walls and carriage panels. Try making the lantern glow with yellow in the center fading to peach, as if it is lighting the winding path to the gate.

Beside the quiet coach road, Elowen nudged a little brass lantern with her nose and waited for it to shine. She wanted to carry one warm light to the palace before the moon climbed over the flags, but the lantern stayed dark as a walnut shell. The royal coach creaked behind her, smelling of velvet dust and rain-polished wheels. “Just one spark,” Elowen whispered.

At the castle gate, the banners hung still, and every window watched. Elowen heard a small sniffle from inside the coach: the young crown keeper had no light for the first welcome feast. Elowen’s chest filled with such a bright, fizzy happiness at being needed that she laughed softly and touched the lantern to her silver horn. Ping! Gold spilled out, warm as honey, and the path stones answered with tiny gleams.

The crown keeper opened the door, and Elowen held the lantern higher so the guards, flowers, trees, and moon could have some too. Ever since that night, palace lanterns glow only when joy is big enough to share; if you follow the coach road with your eyes, can you spot the first one?
