🎨 How to color it

Color the unicorn’s mane in lavender and sky blue, the schoolhouse warm brick red, the apple glossy crimson, and the ABC 123 backpack sunny yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the bridle diamonds, backpack lettering, book pages, and little stars so the small shapes stay crisp. Try making the path pale tan near the school and deeper gold near the unicorn’s hooves, like a secret trail to class.

The story behind this coloring page

Why School Stars Zigzag — Before the first bell, a question went skitter-skitter down the hill path, and Kestrel chased it with an apple tucked under her chin. Read the full story →

Before the first bell, a question went skitter-skitter down the hill path, and Kestrel chased it with an apple tucked under her chin. She had invented Question Tag: touch one curious thing, ask why, then race after the next answer. The school flag snapped like a whispering tongue. “Why do bells have mouths?” she asked, and the bell gave a silver bong that tasted, somehow, like cold rain.

The answer hopped into her backpack, rattled the pencils, and shot upward as a tiny star. Kestrel gasped. You know the sort of gasp—the one that opens a door inside your head. She tagged the star with her horn tip, and it darted across the sky in a crooked dash, leaving a bright scratch behind it.

By the time the bell finished ringing, every school question had learned the trick. They would not float still like bedtime stars. They would leap, turn, and zigzag, because curiosity never walks straight to class. Ever since, school stars keep their jumpy shapes; if you spot one above Kestrel’s path, don’t blink—what question is it chasing?
