🎨 How to color it

Give the wasp golden yellow bands with charcoal stripes, the raspberry a mix of ruby red and deep magenta, and the leaves a fresh garden green with pale pink blossoms. Use sharp colored pencils for the wasp’s narrow wing veins, leg joints, and the many rounded raspberry drupelets, coloring one small section at a time. Try making the berry darkest under the wasp’s feet and brightest on the front circles, so it looks sun-warmed and juicy.

Every afternoon, Junro tapped the raspberry cane: twelve berries, two buds, one blossom, scratch-scratch on his bark tally. He wanted the first ripe berry for the Bramble Relay, but the cluster stayed hard as pebbles and smelled only of leaf dust and rain. Then one day, a thirteenth bump rose where no berry had been.

Because of that, Junro came back at dawn, noon, and purple dusk, while ants laughed from the stems. Because of that, he noticed the new bump was not softening—it was clicking. Finally, after seven patient taps, it opened like a tiny round hatch, and warm berry-sweet air whooshed out. Inside lay the Relay’s missing silver whistle, hidden by the wind in the only place nobody had counted. “Found you,” Junro buzzed, and if you check the crowded berry cluster, you may spot the thirteenth bump that rewarded his scratch-scratch wait.
