🎨 How to color it

Color the castle towers in warm sandstone and slate blue, the crescent moon in pearly ivory and gold, the flags in crimson, and the swirling sky in deep indigo. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny roof scales, window arches, floral panels, and maze-like stone patterns, working from the tallest spires down to the front steps. Add one adventurous twist by making the sky fade from violet at the top to teal near the hills, so the pale moon and busy turrets glow forward.

Every evening, Kellan carried brass messages up the ridge castle’s front stair, racing the wind before the gates clanged shut. He always stopped at the black door; the upper path beyond it was for captains, not couriers, and his hand always felt too small on the latch.

Until one night, the storm banners snapped loose and the crescent moon above the tallest roof began ticking like a watch. Because of that, the gate chains froze in their rings, and no captain could reach the beacon tower. Because of that, Kellan climbed the narrow outside steps alone, knees buzzing, with rain tasting like pennies on his lips.

At the moon dial, he searched the carved stars, the dragon tiles, even the flagpole screws. Nothing. Then his sleeve brushed the plain blank curve inside the crescent, the place nobody bothered to decorate. A silver stair unfolded from it, bright as a shout. Kellan stepped on first, then second, and carried the brass message into the wind before the last banner tore away. At dawn, his palm still smelled of rain and metal from the ridge castle’s front stair.
