🎨 How to color it

Layer jade green and teal over the velociraptor’s zentangle body, use sandy ocher for the dunes, muted sage for the agaves, and dusty rose on the cactus blooms. Because the raptor is packed with tiny paisleys, scales, dots, and leaf shapes, use sharp pencils and color one enclosed pattern at a time before filling the larger desert bands. Try a warm-to-cool shift along the raised tail, moving from amber near the back to deep turquoise at the tip, so its curve becomes the page’s mischief line.

The story behind this coloring page

Vexa’s Invisible Trophy — Every day, Vexa timed the badlands by heat shimmer: noon made the cactus spines hiss, the sand smell like baked clay, and every lizard too sleepy to guard its lunch. Read the full story →

Every day, Vexa timed the badlands by heat shimmer: noon made the cactus spines hiss, the sand smell like baked clay, and every lizard too sleepy to guard its lunch. She had just invented Shadow-Tag, a game with one rule—if your shadow touched a fruit, you could claim it before anyone saw your claws. It was brilliant, unfair, and extremely funny until her long tail-shadow landed on a dry water bowl beside the burrow nursery.

Because of that, she tagged every ripe cactus pear, not for herself but for the bowl. Because of that, beetles rolled seeds, finches dropped petals, and three suspicious lizards argued with nobody while breakfast appeared behind them. Vexa kept score in footprints and pretended to lose. By sunset, the nursery smelled sweet and damp, and no one knew why. She strutted away under her curling, striped tail, still timing the badlands by heat shimmer.
