🎨 How to color it

Layer the butterfly’s wing panels in teal, coral, and golden yellow, with emerald leaves and soft lavender daisies around the lower edges. Use sharp colored pencils and work one enclosed wing section at a time, following the curls and petal outlines before shading inward. For a refined twist, make the matching left and right patterns related rather than identical, shifting each repeated spiral from pale to deep color.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Wings Keep Gardens — Before butterfly wings kept gardens in their veining, Elian tended the courtyard after midnight, trimming moonflowers by touch and tucking fallen petals under warm stones. Read the full story →

Before butterfly wings kept gardens in their veining, Elian tended the courtyard after midnight, trimming moonflowers by touch and tucking fallen petals under warm stones. He wanted only to finish before frost silvered the beds, but a shiver came from the rosemary: a pale moth, too cold to rise, its wings blank as breath on glass. Elian cupped it inside his scarf, where wool smelled of rain and crushed stems, and gave away the only warmth he had saved for his walk home.

The moth slept through dawn. While no one watched, petals loosened from the daisies, fern shadows leaned close, and the little spirals of unopened vines printed themselves on the softened wings. Elian returned to find the creature lifting into amber light, carrying every secret shape of the courtyard without having taken a single bloom. Ever since, butterflies have worn gardens on their wings, because one quiet gardener gave warmth to a stranger before the frost silvered the beds.
