🎨 How to color it

Layer deep indigo on the owl’s folded wings, burnished gold on the radiating crown lines, teal in the chest diamond, and pale amber around the sharp eyes. Use fine-tipped pencils for the tiny triangles, dotted strips, and nested chevrons, turning the page as needed to keep each mirrored section crisp. For a subtle secret-glow effect, blend the gold rays outward into a cool midnight-blue background while leaving a few inner face facets bright.

Under the stone viaduct, where rainwater clicked through cracks like a clock, Corvin set himself one quiet challenge: carry a borrowed ember to the forgotten waymark before the last star faded. He left the dry notch where he slept, crossed the cold iron rail, and followed the smell of wet moss into the arches. Halfway there, a field mouse whispered from a drain, “I can’t see the step.” No one else stirred. Corvin tipped the polished shard from his breast harness and set it in the puddle, catching the ember’s light so the little traveler could pass.

The shard sank with a soft plink. Corvin reached the waymark late, empty-clawed, expecting only dark stone. But the arch above him answered: every hidden seam caught the ember and opened into a thin crown of gold. He understood then that the old builders had never meant the marker to shine for one bird alone. At dawn, he returned to his dry notch changed, carrying no shard, only the secret of that unseen crown.
