🎨 How to color it

Color the baby elephant soft gray, the banana leaves bright jungle green, and the dangling vines a deeper emerald. The elephant’s big body and ears are perfect for chunky crayon fills, while the leaf veins can get quick pencil lines. Try making the path sandy tan so the little gray elephant stands out under all that green.

Under the wet green roof of the rainforest, a little elephant named Zuri carried a dry leaf tucked behind one ear. It was not just a leaf—secretly, it was her map, because it crackled, tick-tick, whenever the jungle hid a mystery. That morning it pointed her toward a place where the vines hung down like sleepy ropes.

Zuri sniffed peppery mud and pushed under huge leaves. The dry leaf crackled faster. “This way?” she whispered. A vine brushed her trunk, then another, and another, until they made a swinging line above the path. Zuri tied her leaf to the lowest vine so the wind could shake it: tick-tick, tick-tick! Ever since then, jungle vines hang in loops, showing curious feet where the secret paths begin—and if you spot Zuri under them, you may know which leaf started it.
