🎨 How to color it

Color the dancer’s leotard lavender, her bun honey brown, the mat mint green, and the water bottle bright teal. The mat, floorboards, and mirror frame have big open spaces, so chunky crayons or markers can make smooth, cheerful fills. Add tiny peach or pale blue shine lines in the mirror to make the quiet studio feel full of morning light.

Beside the cool wall of the corner studio, Vio pressed one painted palm to the edge of her mat. Her little challenge was to make a border all by herself before stretch time ended: hand, hand, toes, hand. The paint smelled sharp and sweet, and the wooden floor gave soft tick-tick sounds when she turned.

She sat tall, lifted her arms like a round window, and counted the spaces she had made. A bar of gold slid from the mirror and landed beside her prints. Then another. The mirror was making its own bright shapes, quiet as a held breath. “You’re helping,” Vio whispered. When the bell chimed, her mat had a border of hands and sunshine. Next time you see her raised arms, can you spot the place where the light joined in?
