At the cloud-rail station, Pip pressed his nose to the cool train window and waited for the whistle cord. He had saved one happy toot for the valley below. The engine smelled like warm iron, and the bell gave a tiny clink-clink over the wheels.
Then a stegosaurus climbed aboard with a leaf bundle hugged tight to his chest. His plates trembled like little sails. “Too loud?” Pip whispered. The stegosaurus nodded.
Pip tugged the small bell first. Ding-ding! The sound was soft as raindrops on fern leaves. The stegosaurus smiled, and Pip’s joy grew too big for one whistle.
