Every day after lunch, Quibble sorted screws at the asteroid fair and dared himself to build a greeting that could make a rocket wave back. He hammered tin, glued star stickers, and painted WELCOME in glittery green, but the sign smelled like hot pickles because he used snack-sauce instead of sealant.
Until one day, a shiny visitor rocket zipped past the fair booths, and Quibble yanked his cord. Because of that, the sign sprang open upside down and read EMOCLEW. Because of THAT, three comet pigeons tried to sit on it, and the rocket slowed to see the fuss. Quibble’s cheeks fizzed purple. “Wait! I made a better hello!” he called, grabbing his smallest brush.
He painted fast across the rocket’s spare banner cloth: GREETINGS ROCKET, with one wobbly star that looked almost polite. The rocket beeped, dipped its nose, and puffed a flame salute bright enough to warm Quibble’s four proud hands. Next time you spot that waving alien, see if you can find the handmade hello that finally flew right after lunch.
