🎨 How to color it

Color the jack-o’-lantern bright pumpkin orange, the crooked house shingles smoky purple-gray, the bats in charcoal black, and the huge moon buttery yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the roof tiles, window panes, fence boards, and pumpkin grooves so the little shapes stay crisp. Try a pale blue halo around the moon and door, leaving the jack-o’-lantern’s grin extra warm so it looks like the prankster of the yard.

By the crooked house on Bristle Lane, Tuck polished his carved grin until it shone like warm soup in a black bowl. He wanted the night wanderers to find treats without anyone catching him being generous, so he nudged moon-mints under the porch step with his stem and hummed, “Clink, plink, don’t peek.” The grass smelled damp, and bats stitched squeaky loops across the moon.

All evening, visitors blamed the house for the treats. “Magic stairs!” a goblin said, tapping the wood. “Polite ghosts!” whispered a witch, licking sugar from her thumb. Tuck only wobbled in the weeds and tried not to laugh through his square teeth.

Then the tiniest bat dipped low and squeaked, “He’s hiding them in his grin!” Everyone gasped—because the surprise wasn’t under the step anymore. Tuck had tucked the last moon-mints behind his own carved smile, saving them for the bats who never came down to knock. If you spot that big pumpkin grin beside Bristle Lane, would you trust it not to clink, plink, don’t peek?
