🎨 How to color it

Color the jack-o’-lantern bright orange, the ghost soft lavender, the leaves golden yellow and red-orange, and the stars buttery yellow. Use chunky crayons for the pumpkin’s big curved sections, and let kids color right over the lines if the windy swirls get tricky. Try making the leaf in the ghost’s hands a special rainbow leaf so it stands out from the leaf pile.

Every evening, Hazel tucked her handmade leaf badge against her sheet and zoomed around Moon Park, whoosh-whoosh, past the pumpkin lamps. She wanted to pin it on the tallest lantern before the bell rang. Until one night, a sneaky wind curled through the path and tugged the badge loose.

Because of that, Hazel chased it over crunchy leaves and around bobbing pumpkins. Because of that, the smallest jack-o’-lantern rolled into a puddle of leaves and got stuck, thump! “I made this,” Hazel puffed, “and I can fix this!” She tied the badge to a twig, scooped leaves like a shovel, and freed the lantern just as the bell dinged. Next time you see Hazel holding that leaf, can you spot the badge that became her brave little shovel?
